As an internationally renowned product designer focused on environmental sustainability, he has designed countless successful products while simultaneously dedicating over five decades to revitalizing Japan's traditional crafts and regional industries.
In recent years, he has made significant contributions to promoting Japanese traditional crafts overseas and exploring new possibilities for them. Particularly in Europe, he has been recognized for creating and disseminating highly original works that combine traditional Japanese craftsmanship with new technologies to suit contemporary lifestyles. For these achievements, he has been awarded the Special Commendation by The Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkacho).
