CRT TVs made of thick glass became a fraction of the thickness and lightness of their predecessors with the advent of LCDs. The power of design brought about dramatic changes. In 1999, when I became involved in reforms that embodied the high technology of the time under the theme of "making new home-use TVs accessible," I set my sights on a new image of Japanese TVs that would be accepted around the world.
